A guide to Alta Badia

Alta Badia, known as Europe’s gourmet ski capital, is enhancing its reputation for luxury ski getaways this season with the opening of Aman Rosa Alpina. The region’s ‘A Taste for Skiing’ event features 16 Michelin stars, including three chefs with three Michelin stars each and three green stars.

The ski season in Alta Badia runs from until April 7, 2026. The event “A Taste for Skiing” will support pediatric palliative care and feature activities like the Gourmet Skisafari, SunRisa, Sommelier on the Slopes, and Delights on Ice. For the 2025/26 season, Skiworld will offer a new package to make booking ski weekends easier for UK visitors during the Wine Skisafari.

Aman Rosa Alpina welcomes its first ski guests

Set in the centre of San Cassiano village, one of Alta Badia’s most iconic hotels re-opened on 24 July 2025 after a two-year closure, and is now reimagined as a fully-fledged Aman sanctuary, set to welcome its first winter guests this season. Extensively re-envisioned by internationally acclaimed architect Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, and celebrating the enduring legacy of the Pizzinini family, a considered use of timber, black metal accents and natural stone retains the hotel’s mountain spirit, while a double-height arrival space welcomes guests. With all guestrooms and suites remodelled, there are new 150 sqm Aman Suites and a reconfiguration of Chalet Zeno into two larger suites, while new dining concepts that opened in summer, including an Italian grill and an all-day lounge for afternoon tea and cocktails, will be joined this winter by the opening of a Japanese restaurant. The newly built Aman Spa features one outdoor and two indoor pools, alongside treatment rooms offering signature therapies which draw on the Dolomites’ restorative powers. Open from 4 December 2025, prices start from €1218 per room per night, two sharing, including breakfast, in-room refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages. http://www.aman.com/resorts/aman-rosa-alpina

Good taste

The 16th edition of ‘A taste for skiing’ returns to the slopes once again with a line-up of chefs from 10 Michelin-starred restaurants taking part this season, holding 16 Michelin stars between them, including three three-starred chefs and three Green Stars. In the most star-studded edition yet, this year’s theme includes an ode to simplicity rather than excess, in perfect harmony with the Alpine environment. Three Michelin-starred chef Massimiliano Alajmo of Le Calandre, and the youngest chef in the world to receive three Michelin stars at the age of 28 in 2002, leads this season’s line-up, which also includes Alta Badia’s own Simone Cantafio, the Michelin-starred chef of La Stüa de Michil at La Perla in Corvara, as well as three Michelin-starred Niko Romito (Restaurant Reale, Castel di Sangro) and the Cerea family (Da Vittorio, Brusaporto).

As part of a season-long offering, chefs will create a signature dish with their partner hut, available to order throughout the season, with participating chefs creating their recipes with reduced waste and a particular focus on protecting our planet. This theme highlights Alta Badia’s sustainable initiatives, in line with the region becoming the fourth Italian tourist destination to obtain GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) certification in August 2022.

With prices starting from €19, including the dish and a paired glass of delicious South Tyrol wine, the ten huts taking part are Ütia Lé, Ütia L’Tamá, Club Moritzino, Las Vegas Lodge, Ütia I Tablá, Ütia Bioch, Ütia Pralongiá, Piz Arlara, Piz Boé Alpine Lounge, and Ütia Jimmi. €3 from each dish sold will be donated to support paediatric palliative care charity ”La Miglior vita possibile”. Funds raised will add to the €60,646 raised since December 2022, with more than 6,000 dishes sold each season, supplementing a fund aimed at building a new Regional Reference Centre for Paediatric Palliative Care and Pain Therapy in the Veneto region.

As part of ‘A taste for skiing’, culinary events on the slopes of Alta Badia this season include:

Gourmet Skisafari – taking place this year on Sunday 14 December 2025, marking the start of Alta Badia’s gourmet ski events. A €60 ticket includes three dishes, or all five for €90, each served with a matched glass of South Tyrol wine. Tickets can be bought on the day, at the first hut visited, or online in advance at http://www.altabadia.org, with the opportunity for skiers to meet the chefs in person, hear the stories and inspiration behind each dish.
