British ski-art brand Frozen Underground has unveiled a major update to its iconic Central Network map for the 2026/27 season, adding 27 ski resorts and introducing three new editions to explore the expanded network.
Created by astronomer, author and former Blue Peter presenter Anton Vamplew, the Central Network reimagines the London Underground map as a network of ski resorts, with mountain destinations represented as stations connected by colourful routes across an illustrated alpine landscape, very much like the London Underground.
First launched in 2012, the artwork was the founding design behind Frozen Underground and has become a distinctive piece of ski-inspired art. The latest update brings the total number of resorts featured to 192, marking the biggest development of the original map.
For the first time, the Central Network is available in three different editions: Classic, Discovery and Gallery, each offering a different way to explore the complete network.
The Classic edition is an A3 print featuring all 192 resorts in the original map format. The Discovery edition, printed at A2 on art paper, adds special icons identifying mountain railways, night skiing and cross-border skiing.
At the top end of the collection, the Gallery edition measures 80 x 60cm and is printed on aluminium. It includes all the additional Discovery icons, alongside cross-border ski-area names and selected information covering mountain railways, skiing records, historical milestones, notable firsts and famous descents.
Rather than simply expanding the original artwork, Vamplew says the aim was to give skiers more ways to discover and engage with the network.
“The Central Network is where Frozen Underground began, so I didn’t want simply to make it bigger. I wanted to give people different ways to explore the same ski world. I hope they’ll find a resort they know, remember where they’ve skied and then notice something they hadn’t seen before,” he said.
The concept encourages owners to spend time exploring the artwork, whether spotting familiar destinations, following connections between countries or discovering resorts to add to their future ski holiday wish lists.
Vamplew is perhaps best known to television audiences as the ‘Blue Peter Astronomer’. An English astronomer, author and lecturer, he has also worked as a presenter at the Royal Observatory Greenwich and written several books on astronomy.
His interest in mapping and visual storytelling has found a different outlet through Frozen Underground, the British ski-art brand he founded. Its collections bring together network maps, piste maps, retro-inspired ski artwork and bespoke commissions, designed for skiers and alpine interiors.
The 2026/27 Central Network collection represents a significant milestone for the brand, retaining the familiar character of the original artwork while making room for more resorts, additional information and different display formats.
All three editions are available now through the Frozen Underground website at frozenunderground.com.
