With a thriving art and food scene: Why Cincy Should Be on Your Travel Radar

By Donna Richardson

In Cincy, art isn’t something reserved for museums and galleries. It spills onto brick walls, illuminates city streets, fills historic theatres and inspires a culinary scene that is rapidly earning international attention. Straddling Ohio and Northern Kentucky, the Cincy Region blends Midwestern heritage, Southern hospitality and creative energy to create one of America’s most compelling urban destinations.

Art is woven into everyday life here. Visitors can spend a morning exploring the Cincinnati Art Museum, home to more than 73,000 works spanning 6,000 years of history, before heading downtown to the Contemporary Arts Center, a striking building designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Public murals, sculptures and installations appear throughout the city, turning neighbourhoods into open-air galleries and making art an integral part of the urban landscape.

Every two years, that artistic energy reaches dazzling new heights during BLINK, billed as the world’s largest light and art festival. Spanning more than 30 city blocks across Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, the event transforms buildings, bridges and public spaces into immersive canvases through projection mapping, interactive installations and large-scale murals. Millions of visitors have attended previous editions, making BLINK one of the most anticipated cultural events in the United States and a spectacular showcase of the region’s creative spirit.

The performing arts scene is equally impressive. The iconic Cincinnati Music Hall, one of the most recognisable buildings in the Midwest, hosts performances by the Cincinnati Opera, the second-oldest opera company in the United States, as well as the acclaimed Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. From ballet and Broadway productions to local theatre companies and live music venues, the region offers a rich cultural calendar year-round.

Perhaps nowhere is Cincy’s creativity more evident than in its food scene. The city has quietly become one of America’s rising culinary destinations, with chefs drawing inspiration from the region’s German roots, Southern influences and diverse communities. The result is a dining culture that is both innovative and deeply authentic.

That culinary momentum received a major boost when Visit Cincy and the MICHELIN Guide announced that Cincinnati will be included in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide American Great Lakes Edition. Anonymous inspectors are already exploring the city’s restaurants ahead of the first awards ceremony in 2027, placing local establishments in contention for prestigious MICHELIN Stars, Bib Gourmand awards and other distinctions. The announcement confirms what locals have known for years: Cincy is a serious food destination worthy of international recognition.

Beyond the restaurants, visitors can explore a celebrated bourbon and brewery scene. Craft breweries, cocktail bars and bourbon-focused venues showcase the region’s passion for hospitality, making it easy to pair great food with equally memorable drinks.

For British travellers, getting to Cincy has never been easier. British Airways operates direct flights between London Heathrow and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, eliminating the need for time-consuming US connections. The route, launched in 2023, is the only nonstop link between the UK and the wider Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana region, opening up a gateway to a destination that remains refreshingly under the radar for many international visitors.

With a flight time of just over eight hours and easy onward access through Heathrow from across the UK and Europe, travellers can leave London in the afternoon and arrive in Cincy the same evening, ready to start exploring.

Whether you’re marvelling at world-class museums, experiencing the spectacle of BLINK, discovering colourful street art, attending a performance in a historic theatre, sampling bourbon or dining at one of the region’s increasingly celebrated restaurants, Cincy offers a creative spirit that lingers long after you leave. For travellers seeking an American city break with culture, character and exceptional food, this two-state destination is proving to be one of the country’s most exciting discoveries

British Airways (BA) and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) announce that the airline is expanding its nonstop service to and from the Cincinnati region and London to six times a week. This is an increase in the airline’s current Summer service from five to six times a week..
